PROGRAM SUMMARIES Dramatic Arts
The St. Augustine Dramatic Arts Program teaches within three distinct elements: theory, creation and analysis. This program is open to any student who is looking to learn more about Performing Arts, increase their self-esteem and confidence and further develop their creativity. The Drama Program explores a variety of dramatic concepts, including vocal technique, creative movement and improvisation. Students have the opportunity to learn about the historical aspects of theatre and to acquire an appreciation for theatre culture. The program emphasizes the development of strong, reflective performance skill, which will hopefully enable students to approach issues (both inside and outside the classroom) with an enriched perspective.
Music
The St. Augustine Music Program is a unique combination of creation, theory and analysis. It welcomes all students of different musical backgrounds and provides students with the opportunity to set personal goals. The program develops an appreciation for different styles of music and exposes students to the world of music through various experiences. Students use modern music technology in class combined with electronic instruments, traditional instruments and voice.
Photography
The St. Augustine Photographic Arts Program is offered in grade 11 and 12. It is a combination of creation, theory and analysis. It welcomes students of all levels with a desire to learn, grow and reach their creative potential through the arts. It stresses creativity and self-direction with a focus on photography and mixed media (drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and digital technology). Students learn how to use photographic chemicals, manipulate images and create compositions and 35mm and digital cameras. Students develop themes and work at their own pace to create meaningful and expressive works of art. Creative problem solving happens both inside and outside the traditional darkroom. This program helps develop a critical eye through creation, written critiques and presentations. Students learn to analyze and appreciate their own and historical art work.
Visual Arts
The St. Augustine Visual Arts Program combines the elements of theory, creation and analysis. This program welcomes students who are interested in learning and experimenting with a variety of art materials and techniques. Students are encouraged to express themselves creatively through hands-on studio projects. Students will also learn about the different styles of art from various historical periods and cultures. Students will exercise the elements and principles of design in their creations. They will also demonstrate knowledge through written and oral critiques. |
